Zola is on less than £40,000 a week, which makes him one of the worst paid managers in the Premier League. He's on much less than some of his players, including England defender Matthew Upson (£70k a week), Scott Parker (also on £70k a week but worth it) and Carlton Cole (£50k). Incredibly, Luis Boa Morte and Kieron Dyer, both of whom are bloody useless and never fit, are on a cool £70k a week too, just for sitting around wearing flip-flops. Madness gone mad!

In all, the club's wage bill is an astronomical £36.7m a year. Mental.

West Ham responded to the leak - first published in the soaraway Daily Star - with this plug-shaped statement on its official website:

"West Ham United can confirm the newspaper article published this morning in the Daily Star, relating to alleged player and staff wages is not based on any club document, the figures contained within it are totally inaccurate and the document is a hoax.

"The Daily Star made no attempt to validate the document with the club prior to publishing it. The club would also like to state that it would never disclose such confidential information in the public domain. West Ham United will make no further comment with the matter now in the hands of the club's lawyers and the Press Complaints Commission."

Wethinks the Hammers protest too much - after all, it's not the sort of document you'd mock up just for kicks.
